Mission Statement Our mission is to pair art creation with coping skill education in a supportive and collective space in order to tackle issues regarding recidivism and idleness. This program hopes to address inmate's individual short-term and long-term needs in order to create positive future outcomes. We provide inmates with creative outlets and art as a healing tool to improve overall mental health and prevent idleness. This program aims to foster creativity and empower a critical consciousness within a supportive community.
Volunteer Duties Facilitators will be creating and holding therapeutic art classes in the two medium security facilities in the Santa Cruz County, the Blaine Street Facility at 141 Blaine Street in the Santa Cruz or the Rountree facilit at 90 Rountree Lane in Watsonville. Facilitators can choose to teach either from 6:00pm-7pm at Blaine Facility on Saturdays or 2:45pm-4:15pm at the Rountree facility. Facilators will be responsible of carrying out certain roles relating to: event outreaching/fundraising, recruitment, program coordination, art management, website maintence or financial bookkeeping. We are looking for volunteers that are willing to dedicate about ten hours a month to the organization and are willing to commit to multiple quarters of service. Volunteers are required to go through security clearance and a criminal background check to be able to teach art class in jails. Volunteers are required to teach one art class per week and attend biweekly meetings.
